True by Finnish author Riikka Pulkkinen, tells the story of Elsa, who spends herfinal days with her family gathered round. As Elsa’s hold on life begins to slip, so does her hold on the secret about the woman who played such a pivotal role in their lives –  Eeva,  her daughter’s nanny, and her husband’s lover. Riikka Pulkkinen talks to Jeffrey Eugenides on her publishing debut in English.

Riikka Pulkkinen (International)

Riikka Pulkkinen studied literature and philosophy at the University of Helsinki. Her debut novel, Raja (The Border), sparked international interest when it was published in 2006. Her second novel, True, will mark her English-language debut. Pulkkinen received the Kaarle Prize and the Laila Hirvisaari Prize in 2007.

Jeffrey Eugenides (International)

Jeffrey Eugenides’ first novel, The Virgin Suicides, was translated into 15 languages and made into a major motion picture. In 2003 Eugenides received the Pulitzer Prize for his novel Middlesex. He is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts, and the receiver of a Whiting Writers' Award. His most recent work, The Marriage Plot, is a novel about the glories and vicissitudes of young love. Born in Detroit, Jeffrey now lives in New York.
