CANCELLED: Due to medical reasons, Joydeep Roy-Bhattacharya is unable to attend Sydney Writers’ Festival.

“I carry India in my heart wherever I may be,” says author Joydeep Roy-Bhattacharya who has lived in many cities around the world. His latest novel, The Watch, is heartbreaking and haunting, the story of a young woman (an Antigone figure) who lays siege to a remote US military encampment in Afghanistan to try to get her brother’s body so she can bury him properly.

CANCELLED: Due to medical reasons, Joydeep Roy-Bhattacharya is unable to attend Sydney Writers’ Festival.

Joydeep Roy-Bhattacharya was born in India and educated in politics and philosophy at Calcutta University and the University of Pennsylvania. His novels, The Gabriel Club and The Storyteller of Marrakesh, have been published in 11 languages in 16 countries. The Gabriel Club was selected as one of the 10 Best Novels of 2000 by Publishing News, selected for the Grand Jury Award at the Budapest Book Fair and shortlisted for India's prestigious Crossword Prize. The Watch is his latest novel.
