As I Was Saying, this “collection of musings”, is Dessaix at his wry and elegant best, taking us on swirling conversation on subjects as diverse as Vladivostock to cats and dogs. He talks to David Marr.

Robert Dessaix (Australian)

Robert Dessaix is a writer, translator, broadcaster and occasional essayist. His best-known books, all translated into several European languages, are his autobiography, A Mother’s Disgrace, the novels Night Letters and Corfu, a collection of essays and short stories, And So Forth, and the travel memoirs Twilight of Love and Arabesques. A full-time writer since 1995, Robert lives in Hobart, Tasmania.

David Marr’s most recent book is Panic. He is the multi-award winning author of Patrick White: A life and The High Price of Heaven, and co-author with Marian Wilkinson of Dark Victory. He has written for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Monthly, been editor of the National Times, a reporter for Four Corners and presenter of ABC TV’s Media Watch. In 2010 he wrote the Quarterly Essay Power Trip: The political journey of Kevin Rudd. David serves on the board of Sydney Writers’ Festival.
