Tom Keneally maintains a prodigious output, often publishing two books a year as he continues to write fiction at the same time as completing his masterful history of Australia, the second volume of which Australians: Eureka to the Diggers is just out. How has he managed such a disciplined writing life or what he describes as “a frenetic career”? And what other joys does he have in store for us? He talks to Richard Glover.

Thomas Keneally (Australian)

Thomas Keneally has written many novels and has shown an increasing interest in producing histories. His history of Irish convictism, The Great Shame, and later work, The Commonwealth of Thieves, were published in all the English-language markets. His novels include Bring Larks and Heroes, The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith, Gossip from the Forest, Schindler's Ark and The People's Train. Thomas has the won numerous awards, among them the Miles Franklin Literary Award, the Booker Prize, the Los Angeles Book Prize and the Royal Society of Literature Prize.
