P.A. O’Reilly’s character Loretta Boskovic in The Fine Colour of Rust calls herself an “old scrag”. Kerry Greenwood’s Phyrne Fisher is a far more glamorous creature but, like Susan Johnson’s older woman character in My Hundred Lovers, sex is often on their minds. The authors talk to Kerryn Goldsworthy about how to create memorable Australian female characters.
