Politicians traditionally mangle language, whether it is Tony Abbott saying “make my day” or Julia Gillard mispronouncing “hyperbole”.  Our panel, Eric Knight, Nick Bryant and Kathy Lette review some of the more interesting political language, here and abroad, of the past year. They talk to Janine Perrett.

Eric Knight (Australian)

Eric Knight is the author of Reframe: How to solve the world’s trickiest problems. Eric was born in 1983. A former Rhodes scholar, he has worked as an economics consultant to the OECD, the UN and the World Bank. He has written for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Drum, The Spectator and The Monthly. A research associate of the ANU Centre for Climate Economics and Policy, he works for Boston Consulting Group.

Kathy Lette (International)

Kathy Lette first achieved succès de scandale as a teenager with the novel Puberty Blues. After several years as a newspaper columnist and television sitcom writer in America and Australia, she wrote 10 international bestsellers including Foetal Attraction, Mad Cows and How to Kill Your Husband (and other handy household hints). Janine Perrett (Australian)

Janine Perrett’s journalism career began at The Australian newspaper in 1979 and included lengthy stints in London and New York as foreign correspondent. On her return to Australia she became a television reporter with the Nine Network on the Sunday and Business Sunday programs and also founded and presented The Small Business Show. She is host of her own nightly chat show, The Perrett Report, on Sky TV as well as other commentating on Sky News, Fairfax and Radio 2UE.

Nick Bryant (Australian)

Nick Bryant was born in Bristol and works in Australia for the BBC as one of its most trusted and senior foreign correspondents. He is a regular contributor to several Australian magazines and newspapers, including The Australian, The Spectator, The Monthly and The Australian Literary Review. Nick studied history at Cambridge and has a doctorate in American politics from Oxford. He lives in Sydney with his wife and son.
