Most of us will spend at least some part of our lives working in one, but how much do we really know about the place from where the world is run? Gideon Haigh has given us a history. He talks to Caroline Overington.

Caroline Overington (Australian)

Caroline Overington is a two-time winner of the Walkley Award for investigative journalism, and a winner of the Sir Keith Murdoch Prize for excellence in journalism. She writes bleak novels about loss, and pain; she's a mother of twins that are growing up too fast; and she's a Test cricket tragic.

Gideon Haigh (Australian)

Gideon Haigh has been writing about sport, business and social history for more than 20 years. He wrote regularly for The Guardian during the 2006-07 Ashes series. He has written or edited more than 20 books, the most recent of which is The Office: A hardworking history.
