With her latest book, the exuberant Kathy Lette comes down to earth, with a story that touches on some very personal territory. It is the story of Merlin, the autistic son of the narrator, whose husband cannot deal with the diagnosis and leaves them, and who herself finds the stress at times almost unendurable. The Boy Who Fell to Earth is a serious examination of the pressures on both mother and child as a result of his condition as well a hilarious story of a single mother coping with unsuitable suitors and everything else that life throws, Lette-style, at her. Kathy Lette talks to Jean Kittson.
