Poetry readings with special guests Mark Tredinnick, Ali Jane Smith and Julie Chevalier plus the Rocket Readings open-mic section, hosted by Linda Godfrey, with live music from Clock and Clouds.

Presented by South Coast Writers’ Centre and supported by Arts NSW, Wollongong City Council and Wollongong City Gallery.

Mark Tredinnick (Australian)

Mark Tredinnick, winner of the 2011 Montreal International Poetry Prize and many Australian poetry awards, is the author of 11 works of poetry and prose including: Fire Diary, winner of the Western Australian Premier’s Book Award; The Blue Plateau, shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards and winner of the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award; The Little Red Writing Book; and Australia’s Wild Weather. His poems and essays are widely published in Australia and the United States. He lives on the Wingecarribee River, south-west of Sydney.

Julie Chevalier (Australian)

Julie Chevalier’s poetry and short fiction appear in Best Australian Poetry 2011 and Best Australian Short Stories 2011. She placed third in the Newcastle Poetry Prize 2011 and won the Alec Bolton Prize in 2012. Permission to Lie, a collection of short stories, was published by Spineless Wonders in 2011. linen tough as history, a poetry collection, was published by Puncher & Wattmann in 2012. Darger: His girls, a sequence of poems, is forthcoming from Puncher & Wattmann.

Ali Jane Smith (Australian)

Ali Jane Smith's first poetry collection, Gala, was published in 2006 as part of the Five Islands Press New Poets Program. She has been the recipient of a Longlines Residency for Regional Writers at Varuna,the Writers House. Her work has appeared in publications such as Southerly, Cordite, and Mascara Literary Review. She has recorded readings for audio CD and performed in schools, universities, pubs, cafes, shopping malls and at festivals. She is a life member of the South Coast Writers’ Centre.

Clocks and Clouds (Australian)

Clock and Clouds are musicians Kraig Grady and Terumi Narushima whose acoustic performances comprise specially ‘mesotonally’ tuned vibraphone and harmonium. These instruments, with their special pure harmonic tuning, explore the beauty of room resonances via ancient sacred scales and multi-dimensional geometry realised in sound.

Linda Godfrey (Australian)

Linda Godfrey lives in Wollongong, close to the ocean. Her fiction and poetry has appeared in Cordite, the UTS writers’ anthology Nine Tenths Below, audio anthologies by River Road Press and the Spineless Wonders anthology Escape. She was selected for the Varuna Longlines Residency Program and an Australian Society of Authors mentorship.
