Festival guests Jeffrey Eugenides and Stella Rimington joins Jennifer Byrne and regular panellists Jason Steger and Marieke Hardy for this Sydney Writer’s Festival edition of the First Tuesday Book Club. Join us for the taping of this special show.

Stella Rimington (International)

Stella Rimington joined the Security Service (MI5) in 1968 and was appointed Director General in 1992. She was the first woman to hold the post and the first Director General whose name was publicly announced on appointment. During her career she worked in all the main fields of the Service: counter-subversion, counter-espionage and counter-terrorism. She has written an autobiography, Open Secret, and five Liz Carlyle novels. She lives in London and Norfolk. Her latest release is Rip Tide.

Marieke Hardy (Australian)

Marieke Hardy is a screenwriter, blogger and radio broadcaster. After many years writing a humorous television column in The Age, she moved on to regular political columns for ABC's The Drum and senior contributing work for Frankie magazine. She has been screenwriting Australian television drama for over 15 years. Her six-part black comedy series Laid premiered in Australia in 2011. In the guise of literary reviewer she makes Jennifer Byrne's life an unbridled misery once a month on ABC TV's First Tuesday Book Club. She lives in Melbourne with a dog named Bob Ellis.

Jennifer Byrne (Australian)

Jennifer Byrne is a journalist and broadcaster, and the host of ABC TV’s First Tuesday Book Club. She has written for The Bulletin and worked on television programmes such as Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes, Sunday and ABC TV’s Foreign Correspondent.

Jason Steger (Australian)

Jason Steger is the literary editor of The Age and a regular panellist on ABC TV’s First Tuesday Book Club.

Jeffrey Eugenides (International)

Jeffrey Eugenides’ first novel, The Virgin Suicides, was translated into 15 languages and made into a major motion picture. In 2003 Eugenides received the Pulitzer Prize for his novel Middlesex. He is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts, and the receiver of a Whiting Writers' Award. His most recent work, The Marriage Plot, is a novel about the glories and vicissitudes of young love. Born in Detroit, Jeffrey now lives in New York.
