Roddy Doyle’s incomparable literary career includes a memoir, children’s books, famous screenplays and his many novels. At the centre of his work is his country, Ireland, a subject that is perfect for a master storyteller such as Doyle. He talks to Matthew Condon.

Roddy Doyle (International)

Roddy Doyle was born in Dublin in 1958. He is the author of nine acclaimed novels and Rory & Ita, a memoir about his parents. He won the Booker Prize in 1993 for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. The Dead Republic was the final volume in the Henry Smart trilogy.

Matthew Condon (Australian)

Matthew Condon is the author of several novels, short-fiction collections and works of non-fiction. He is a two-time winner of the Steele Rudd Award for Short Fiction. His novels include The Motorcycle Café, The Pillow Fight and The Trout Opera. His latest books are Brisbane and, as editor, Fear, Faith and Hope: Remembering the long wet summer of 2010-2011. He is editor of Qweekend magazine, The Courier-Mail, and is currently an adjunct professor with the Queensland University of Technology.
